Having lived in 22 countries around the world I simply can't imagine life without some of the foods I'm about to mention. But remember, I'm a Chef so of course I would say that.
To better help you understand why I've chosen the foods you'll see listed here, I thought it would be good if I explained a few details before hand. In India where I use to live, there's a science known as Ayurveda. This science of life prescribes living the healthiest way possible, and before you start to think it has nothing to do with you and your life stlye, I will further convey that this science is branching out to posh London restaurants and alternative medical approaches in the united States.
For centuries , Indians based their natural diets on individual temperament (swabhav) and body type (prakriti), as well as their age and profession. The practice of ayurveda, composed of the two words ayus (life) and ved (science), was a preventive measure against disease and sickness.
In London, ayurvedic concepts are popular for restaurant menus, and in South Africa and Maylaysia, among others. The four basis taste in the Western foods are: sweet, sour, salty and bitter. However, Indian foods include these as well as chilly and astringent tastes. All dishes are prepared keeping these elements in mind, including all six tastes in a day's worth of meals, if not all in one meal.
Typically, meals according to ayurveda begin with salty and sour foods, progressing to chilly, astringent and bitter foods and ending with sweet. More on Ayurveda in my next blog article. For now I think its time to share with you just a few of the Top 25 Foods to eat before you die, and here they are:
Balut
This Filipino delicacy is a fertilized egg that is incubuted until a duckling develops,
and then soft-boiled and eaten.
Durian
A acquired taste-- and smell durian is a large, spiny green fruit from South East Asia
with a dense skin that protects a creamy center that some swoon over and some find
putrid. Durian has such a distinctive odor (it bloody stinks/sewer like is the most
common description) that its been banned on public transportation in some countries.
Fufu
A West African dish made of pounded yam formed into slmy balls, fufu is served with
meat stew or any dish with sauce or gravy.
Fugu
Dozens of people in Japan die each year from eating this blowfish, which has an organ
containing a toxin so deadly that only specially licensed chefs are allowed to prepare
it for people to eat.
The above foods are just a few of my Top 25 Foods to Eat Before You Die. Perhaps you'll come back to read more and learn more about these foods. I can assure you that they are very interesting, and some you may have never heard of before.
As this blog is about building relationships, think about these somewhat strange foods, as new and interesting opportunities to a magical moment in time you've yet to experience. Who knows where it will lead.
Embrace and Enjoy!
